When I was young, I recall I was always active but tend to get sick easily so my mother would regularly give me ascorbic acid (Vitamin C). Later it changed to Vitamin D and so on. When she observed that I was a bit small for my age, she gave me some Chinese herbs. That I think influence my adulthood as I still get sick often so kept looking for the ideal supplements. Finally after many years of research and experimentation, I realized that there is no ideal supplements and the best path to health is to get the right nutrition (See My Simple Guidelines) so now I rarely get sick and feel strongly than ever before despite my age. However with our modern lifestyles, there will be days when you need some kind of boost whether after a hard workout or overnight work or even hangover. Rather than relying solely on artificial supplements, I now mainly rely on Natural Supplements. Natural supplements are a lot more potent in a smaller dosages as it includes other nutrients that help with its absorption plus all the other cancer fighting or anti-aging nutrients. Hence no side effect and less work required for the kidneys and livers.
Below are the natural supplements I used. Do note I am emphasizing the main ingredients only but do make sure to add water as necessary. I almost never add sugar or other flavorings and instead rely on natural flavors from the fruits or honey.
1. Multivitamins and Minerals - Vegetables and fruits with different colors plus nuts or seeds into a blender
2. Protein - Nuts like soy, almonds, etc with eggs, yogurts or milk into a blender.
3. Carbohydrates - Rice, oats, banana, etc. mixed in blender or mixer. Since my diet are mostly Japanese which includes a lot of carbohydrates, I rarely need this.
4. Instant boost - Use a juicer instead of a blender to reduce the fibers. This will accelerate absorptions. This is a good option when I am getting or already sick. Normally I avoid this as I need the fiber for my overall health. I can not recall that last time I used a juicer - maybe a year ago or so.
5. Almighty - Mixed above 1-3. This is my usual supplement as this is well balance and includes all the nutrients I need. I just adjust the ratio of 1 -3 depending on the time I consume it. At the start of day, usually a bit less of above 2 which reverses at night. The idea here is I need the energy boost to get me through the day and at night I need for recovery.
Final note: There are days (offsite or traveling) when I neither have the time nor access to a blender and this is not a problem as long I continue to eat right. Supplements are meant to be just that so it is not mandatory and avoid consuming it right before the main meal.
